PROBIOTICS are supplements or foods that contain viable micro-organisms that help to replenish the microflora of the digestive system. Foodstuffs that incorporate probiotics include yoghurt (a lacto-probiotic), sauerkraut and kombucha. With regular consumption, these foods effectively maintain a healthy microbiome. However, they are not active enough to repopulate an unhealthy biome.
Although long considered to be the go-to probiotic supplement, lacto-derived probiotics have the distinct disadvantage that they are sensitive to the acidic environment of the stomach, leading to very few viable cultures reaching the small intestine.
The latest research indicates that soil-derived probiotics (humic probiotics) are many times more effective than lacto-probiotics in boosting the body’s immune system – both for preventing disorders and speeding up recovery from illness.
